Introductory post
September 30, 2006
Currently, the main place where I hang out online is LiveJournal. I’m not sure if LiveJournal is going to continue to suit what I want from blogging, so I’ve set up a WordPress account. I’ve crossposted some of my old posts, ones that I think are of general interest rather than the day-to-day personal stuff that makes up the greatest proportion of my journal. I have not decided whether I’ll switch completely, but for the time being I’m going to be running the two in parallel.

Um… do you see an imminent disaster (or disastrous change of policy) hanging over LiveJournal that I am not aware of?

I don’t know how imminent, and I don’t know how far the disaster is going to extend, but have a look at the last several posts in the LJ biz community to get an idea of why I’m starting to think about alternatives. I’ve been growing increasingly worried about the future of LJ for a while, but this stuff has upped the level of urgency.
It might be ok, but what it comes down to is that if a critical mass of the kind of people I want to interact with start finding the site too annoying to deal with, there’s not much point in me sticking with it. I don’t have a crystal ball, but I’m worried.
By the way, you’ve used a silly email address, which is all very sensible when commenting on blogs. But if you use an email address that the blog doesn’t recognize, your comment will go into moderation. So you might prefer to try and remember exactly which silly address you used for this comment and stick with it; it’s not displayed at all except to me as the blog owner. But it’s up to you anyway.
